Operation Information

Mail-enables an existing Active Directory user as a remote (Exchange Online) mailbox in a hybrid Exchange environment. The mailbox is provisioned in Exchange Online once the user account has synchronized to Microsoft Entra ID and an Exchange Online license has been assigned.

Input Parameters

Identity string Identifies the existing Active Directory user to mail-enable. You can use any value that uniquely identifies the user, such as the user principal name or Domain\Username. Yes No
Alias string Specifies the Exchange alias (mail nickname) for the remote mailbox. If not specified, the alias is derived from the user account. No No
RemoteRoutingAddress string Specifies the SMTP address of the mailbox in Exchange Online, for example alias@tenant.mail.onmicrosoft.com. If not specified, the address is derived from the organization's hybrid email address policy. No No
Server string Specifies the Exchange Server hostname or FQDN to connect to. Leave empty to run locally on the target machine, including management-tools-only environments with no running Exchange server. No No
